My first memories of art in my life were probably cartoons. I remember drawing The Simpsons, Disney
characters, and the Thundercats. It was
just a hobby and something I did when I was bored, to pass the time.
Around 6th grade, comics hit their big commercial
band and I was one of the many consumers.
I devoutly went to the comic shops every week to buy the new
comics. I fell in love with the artistry
of the business. Artists like Todd
Macfarlane, Marc Sylvestri, Dale Keown, Jim Lee, Sam Keith, Eric Larson, Alex
Ross, Mike Turner and so many others inspired me to draw and doodle my own
comics.
After three years of drawing comic books, a friend
introduced me to the worlds of graffiti art and hip hop. I loved the art form and dove in head
first. After several arrests and fines I
was finally privileged enough to get a couple of legal walls and left the
illegal scene behind. Spray can artists
that inspired me were Mode 2, Ces, Wish, Sole, and Aztec. I hope to get back to doing more legal street
art.
After high school I held several jobs and bounced around
from job to job unsure of what I wanted to do with my life. I still drew and sketched things out all of
the time but it was just a hobby. I had
bought some tattoo machines when I was 19 but without the capability to get
needles and inks they stayed in my closet for 7 years. One day a friend found me a local supplier
and I tattooed for the first time in July of 2005. I did not have a power supply so I hooked the
machine directly to an old Nintendo ac adapter.
It was not pretty (to say the least).
But from that first tattoo I got a couple of people willing to let me
practice. After two and a half years of
tattooing out of my house and being rejected from so many shops I finally got
an offer for a job. I am ever so
thankful for that chance. It was a dream
come true for me. From there I got
serious about art and for the first time in my life I really wanted
something. I buckled down and tattooed
18 hours a day 4 days a week and drew 15 hours a day the other 3 days. I was hooked.
I have met great people and found inspiration with fellow tattoo artists
like Dan Plumley, Nick Baxter, Jeff Ensminger, Jimmy Munoz, Victor Portugal,
Carson Hill, Nikko Hurtado, Josh Duffy, Adrian Dominic, Jesse Smith, Diego
Ruiz, Tommy Lee, and many others.
I love doing custom tattoos and doing something different
every time. I seem to go through stages
and I am constantly changing things up.
I mostly do bigger work but still have fun with the small stuff. I love clients who can trust me and let me do
my thing.
I paint when I can and try to do as many conventions as
possible. I love traveling and seeing
new places.
There are a lot of great artists out there and I am happy to
be in an industry with so much talent and passion. It is a blessing to do this for a living.
